School Update!

Dear Diary, September 28, 2008

Wow. This year is passing by real quick. I am just loving school. Just a quick update on all my classes.

First hour, Pilates, is awesome. I am loving the cardio days. It is a lot of running but I am getting better and I like seeing the improvement. And now we are starting to input our nutrition online. Which helps me notice how much I am eating.

My second hour, English, is doing fine. Do you ever have one of those classes where you have an easy going teacher, hardly any homework, and a really easy class? Well this class is one of those classes. Think that is a good thing? Well not for me. I tend to get so wrapped up in my hard classes that I forget to study in the easy class. I am trying really hard to work the same in every class.

Spanish is getting harder and harder. We started reading a book that is all Spanish. HARD! I was really confused until I started focusing and breaking stuff down. My teacher is getting annoyed with our class so he is graded harder too.. And that is the last thing I need.

Study hall is still cool, but we got a seating chart so I can’t sit with my friends anymore. But that might be a good thing, so I can actually study.

Math is getting harder too. But luckily I have a couple of good teachers. I think if I get behind at all then I will go ask them for help. We are doing proofs, and they are hard but I think I can do them.

Biology, my sixth hour, is my worst class. It is not the hardest but I hate my teacher. She is so stupid! I mean it. I do not understand her directions at all. How can you learn, when you don’t know what you are supposed to do? I am not the only one feeling this way either! My whole class is confused. I have a lot of friends in that class, so I always text them on what we have to do for homework and they are not sure! Drives me crazy.

But I am doing really good this year. I got either an A or a B in all my classes. Which makes me happy because I am no longer grounded. I want to do good this year. Nothing would make me more happy.

Love,
Tayler!

Living organisms and viruses! Biology homework/test.

Aww.. This year is getting harder and harder. I was absent one day because I went to Colorado with my Nana and I had a test in Biology. So I took home the make-up up test, it turned out that it was an essay and I had to compare the differences and similarities between living organisms and viruses. So I thought I would share what an awesome job I did on it.

“Living organisms and viruses are more different than alike. But of course they do share common traits. They both change over time, evolve, and reproduce.

I mentioned viruses and living things having many differences. Some characteristics that viruses have that living things do not are viruses are completely dependent on a living organism (host) for existence. Also viruses crystallize and living things do not. I thought that viruses being made of either DNA or RNA compared to living things only being made of DNA, was the most interesting difference.

Living organisms also have qualities that viruses lack. Living things grow and develop and they obtain but also use energy. Using homeostasis living things also respond to their environment.

Although viruses are not considered living, I believe they should, mainly, because they reproduce. Spreading DNA to other capsids is just like living, in my mind. In many ways viruses are just like cells. Viruses depend on living organisms just like cells depend on oxygen, they are small, have a purpose and from something bigger than themselves. The difference is cells are alive and viruses are not.”

P.S. I got a 95/100 on this test! Pretty good huh?!
